THACKLEY:

Forum: The Idle and Thackley Retired Men’s Forum will be addressed by Hilary Lawther when they meet next Wednesday. She will give a talk, accompanied by slides, on a subject that she is keenly interested in – “Gambia and the Gambian Schools Trust”. This will take place in the community hall of Thackley Methodist Church, with refreshments being served from 10.00am and the meeting commencing at 10.30. All retired men are welcome to join us.

Group: Thackley Ladies Group’s next fortnightly meeting will take place a week on Wednesday, 19th September, when Trevor Moody will speak on “Comedians in the Past”. In the coffee lounge of Thackley Methodist Church commencing at 8.00pm. New members will be most welcome.

THORNTON

DIRECTOR: Thornton Singers, a mixed voice choir of 30 members are looking for a new Musical Director to start in January 2019.

The choir performs in concert 4 to 5 times a year and the successful candidate will be required to lead and conduct the choir supported by its regular accompanist . Remuneration is negotiable.

Thornton Singers, formed in 1970, rehearse every Wednesday at Haworth Road Methodist Church in Heaton from 7.30 to 9.30pm.

WYKE

LOCAL HISTORY: The next meeting of the Wyke Local History Group is on Tuesday at 2.30pm in the Veterans' Pavilion, Recreation Ground when Jackie Depelle will be speaking on 'Twixt Leeds and Bradford'. New members always welcome.

ACTIVITIES: The Wyke Art Group meets on Tuesday at 2pm in the Friends Meeting House, Scholes Lane, Scholes. Workshops and Demonstrations are held on regular occasions.

BOWLS: On Saturday the Wyke BC first team will be away at Cononley. The Half Holiday Team will be at home to local rivals Oakenshaw on Wednesday. On Thursday the Veterans' first team will be away at Calverley and the second team at home in the Recreation Ground at 1.30pm against West Park.

CHURCH NEWS: The Wyke Christian Council of Churches will be holding a Prayer Meeting on Saturday at the Wyke Christian Community Church, Towngate at 9.15am. Church Family Worship with Commissioning of Teachers of the Faith to Children and Young People is on Sunday at 10am. At the Moravian Church in Lower Wyke, Morning Worship with Holy Communion is at 10.30am on Sunday at 10.30am. On Friday 7th. September the Greenfingers Plant Exchange and Advice Morning starts at 10.30am. David Kenyon will be leading the Morning Service on Sunday at 10.30am at the Westfield UR Church. An informal Evening Service is at 6pm. Tonight at 6pm members of the Wyke Christian Community Church will be holding a Family Film Night with Pizza and Popcorn. Glenn Wilson will be conducting the Morning Service at 10.30am followed by Evening of Prayer at 6.30pm. Geoff Twentyman will be conducting the Morning Service at the Wyke Methodist Church on Sunday at 10.30am.

HERITAGE OPEN WEEKEND: Two churches in Wyke, St. Mary's in Green Lane, the Moravian Church in Lower Wyke, will be taking part in this annual national event over the weekend 8th and 9th September. St. Mary's Church will be open to visitors on Saturday 8th. September from 9am to 5pm and the Moravian Church on Saturday from 10am to 4pm and Sunday from noon to 4pm. Visitors welcome -free entry.
