A PARENT of students at a Bradford high school has hit out at it for not alerting parents after Darren Senior was arrested for setting up spy cameras there.

Darren Senior, 41, of Eastborough Crescent, Dewsbury, worked at the swimming pool at Tong Leadership Academy as a Bradford Council employee when the pool was operated by the Council outside of school hours.

He pleaded guilty at Leeds Crown Court earlier this month to an array of sexual offences, including setting up cameras in the toilets at Tong pool and producing indecent images of children.

Other voyeurism offences included putting cameras in the toilets at Richard Dunn Sports Centre while he worked there, producing hundreds of images of children, and sexually assaulting an eight-year-old girl.

One parent has hit out at the school asking why parents were not told Senior had been arrested earlier this year.

However, a spokesperson for Star Academies Trust said Senior never worked for the school.

Michelle Riach, whose daughter is a student at Tong, said her “heart was in the back of her throat” reading about Darren Senior’s actions in the Telegraph & Argus.

She said: “It was disappointing to only find out about this reading it in the paper.

“My daughter has attended that school for four out of five years.

“My heart was in the back of my throat reading it, we have heard nothing from the school since he was arrested.

“A year ago, the day before the news came out about the teacher who had sex with a pupil, we all had letters sent home saying it was all under control.

“It didn’t give any details but they still let us know about it before seeing it in the paper.”

In June 2017, Amena Nazam-Khan, who taught at Tong, was given a life ban from teaching after admitting to having a sexual relationship with a male student at the school.

“The school has sent us letters in the past, but they haven’t done anything on this occasion when this is a bigger issue, in my opinion,” added Mrs Riach.

“Everybody is angry about this, I was a pupil at Tong myself and have always stood by it, but what Darren Senior has done is disgusting and a lot of parents want to know if their children are affected.”

A spokesperson for Tong Leadership Academy said: “Mr Senior is not, and never has been, an employee of Tong Leadership Academy.

“In the evenings and weekends he worked at the swimming pool as part of the community provision run by the Council. The swimming pool itself is shared between the school and the Council, however the two different uses of the pool do not overlap and neither do the staff. Safeguarding of our young people remains our highest priority.”

Bradford Council has previously said it cannot comment on the issue as judicial proceedings are not yet concluded.

Senior is being sentenced for the offences at Bradford Crown Court on Friday, August 31.
