VIBRANT costumes and distinctive sounds have filled Bradford’s Centenary Square today as the Make Your Mela day took place.
The event, organised by Bradford Council, is acting as both a pilot and a consultation event to prepare for a possible return of the full mela in 2019, with the event announcer urging the assembled crowd to “help bring your mela back to your city.”
Performers at the event did not restrict themselves to the stage, often walking and dancing around the crowd, adding to the spontaneous and entertaining atmosphere.
The Council had previously stated that Bradford Mela could return next year if the pilot event proved successful.
