A BRADFORD Mela inspired event will be taking place City Park tomorrow.
The Make Your Mela Asian themed event will run from noon to 8pm, and feature music by acts like Panjabi MC London indie electro trio, Strong Asian Mothers, Indian brass fusion band, Firm Semi Live Band, Fahad Khalid, a multi-instrumentalist who plays ‘Eastern Folk Jazz’ and the Rajasthan Heritage Brass band.
The event is a pilot and consultation event for a possible return of the Bradford Mela, which ran from 1988 to 2012, and at its height attracted around 100,000 people. If tomorrow's event is successful, the Mela could be back in 2019.
The free event will also feature Jay Kumar’s DanceAsia team performing Bollywood dance, Chinese musician, Xiao Xiao Hou, and British Asian band, Bollywood Rhythms will play a mix of classic, folk and Bollywood hits.
There will also be arts workshops and food and drink stalls.
