A GIN festival is the latest event to be announced for Bradford's iconic St George's Hall when it re-opens next year.

The Grade II listed concert venue is currently covered by screen as restoration work, funded by Bradford Council and a £1.5m grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund continues, but it is due to re-open in early 2019.

Acts are now being announced for once the hall re-opens, and include singer Barbara Dickson and comedian Sandi Toksvig.

And now it has been announced that the hall will host "The Great British Gin Festival" on March 9.

The event will be a change of pace for the hall, which normally hosts music or comedy concerts rather than events.

The festival bills itself as "The UK's biggest gin festival tour."

After several delays in work to the hall, it is finally due to re-open to acts in January.

A Bradford Council, spokesperson said: “The Great British Gin Festival is currently only a provisional booking for St George’s Concert Hall, however, we have hosted similar events in the past.

“The recent refurbishment has made the facility more comfortable with improved sight lines, catering areas and accessibility for disabled people.

“The hall’s capacity, purpose and scope remains broadly the same, however, we will continue to operate the space flexibly and creatively in order to keep abreast of changes in people’s tastes and available events.”
