A 30-YEAR-old man has been jailed after admitting driving dangerously as he attempted to evade police in Manningham.

Amardeep Singh appeared before Bradford Crown Court yesterday over driving a VW Golf at speeds of up to 50mph on the Green Lane area of Manningham on June 6 earlier this year.

He also admitted having a lock knife and a wrap of heroin in his possession as well as driving without a licence and insurance.

Prosecutor Robert Yates told the court that Singh had been spotted by police officers on Manningham Lane at around 10.20am driving a vehicle in a "poor state of repair".

He initially indicated when asked to pull over, but then failed to stop and drove at speeds of up to 50 mph in a 30 zone in a bid to evade police.

He ran straight through blind junctions and took them on the wrong side of the road, Mr Yates explained.

At one point he drove on the pavement when his way was blocked, before he and his passenger abandoned the car in Salt Street.

Police caught up with Singh and arrested him, needing to use pepper spray, finding a wrap of heroin and a lock knife on him.

Danielle Graham, for Singh, said he simply panicked when the police attempted to pull him over. She added that despite being a drug addict he had been working as a builder and had been supporting himself financially.

The Recorder of Bradford, Judge Jonathan Durham Hall QC, sentenced Singh to 13 months and disqualified him from driving for two years.

He said: "You caused a real risk to other people including your passenger."
