CHILDREN at a Bradford primary school have been given a special leaving gift thanks to their performing teachers.

Teachers and staff at Thornton Primary School annually make a leaver’s video for their Year 6 pupils who are moving into secondary school in September, and this year was no different.

Videos in the past have included a performance of Justin Timberlake’s ‘Can’t Stop the Feeling’, and last year teachers made their very own Carpool Karaoke video for pupils.

This year was inspired by the massively popular film musical - which is massively popular among children at the school - The Greatest Showman, which stars Hugh Jackman, Zac Efron and Michelle Williams.

Led by Year 6 teacher Chris Gilmour - who surely can have a career in acting if teaching doesn’t work out for him - the video is the school’s remake of the opening scene of the Oscar nominated film, the musical sequence The Greatest Show.

In the video, a number of staff members, ranging from teachers to support staff, administrative staff and kitchen staff, sing along to the tune, with a number of teachers taking on the role of Hugh Jackman’s lead character from the film.

Shona Mott, who makes a starring turn in the video as bearded lady Lettie Lutz, said the staff didn’t rehearse any parts of the video before filming took place at the school.

She said children at the school are “obsessed” with the film, which was a hit in cinemas.

She said: “We chose The Greatest Showman as we always try do something that’s relevant to the kids and they all absolutely love the film.

“The video was shot over a couple of after school sessions with no practice.

“We literally send an email to staff asking who wants to be involved and film in a couple of sessions.

“We’re very lucky to have a tech savvy Deputy Head who then spends a weekend putting it all together for us.”

The finished product was shown to pupils before they left, and has had more than 3,000 views online.

In 2017, the production, once again spearheaded by teacher Chris Gilmour, told the story of his journey to work, and was joined along the way by his colleagues, singing along to tunes such as 24k Magic by Bruno Mars, Something Like This by Coldplay, Happy by Pharell Williams and Shake It Off by Taylor Swift, as they drive to work.

In 2016, Mr Gilmour once again took the leading role in the video, which featured the school’s staff singing along to Can’t Stop the Feeling by Justin Timberlake.
