AN application to turn a former take away into a new bar has been submitted to Bradford Council.

The former Adams takeaway on Saltaire Road is the subject of the change of use application that would see a new bar open on the main route from Shipley town centre to Saltaire.

The application, by Rajesh Mistry, says the new bar will be known as The Peacock Lounge and employ two full time members of staff.

The unit is next to the Imperial Chinese Restaurant.

A licensing application for the business has also been submitted to the Council, asking for permission to serve alcohol until midnight and to stage live music until 11pm.

A decision on the application is due to be made next month.

If approved it would be the latest in a series of new bars on the stretch of road leading to the World Heritage Site.

Last year Hullabaloo opened in an empty unit on Westgate and the Victoria on Saltaire Road was re-opened as The Salt Cellar.

Shipley Pride on Saltaire Road is also due to re-open soon under the new name of the Beehive.
