THE launch of the ‘My Home Debut’ initiative at Cougar Park is already proving popular among the supporters.

New Cougars general manager Steve Gill brought the idea with him from former club Castleford Tigers where it was a real success.

The idea behind the debut is to allow supporters attending their first-ever Cougars game a real day to remember and hopefully make them fans of the club for life.

Those who take part in ‘My Home Debut’ are given a guided tour of Cougar Park and are taken into the dressing rooms to meet the first team players ahead of the big game.

But the fun doesn’t stop there, the individual is then taken out on the pitch by a player as the teams enter the field as well collecting a number of signatures, memorabilia and photographs to remember their big day.

The first Cougars edition of the initiative took place at the last home fixture, a 24-16 defeat to Hunslet RL, where the Denholme Youth Cafe attended the game with all children and staff new to the Cougars and rugby league.

It proved a memorable day despite the result with all those attending enjoying their day with the club.

Speaking about the first of a number of new matchday introductions, Gill said: “The programme proved a real success during my time at Castleford.

“It is open to anybody of any age, at Castleford the youngest to take part was a new born baby of only two weeks and the oldest was a woman in her 80s.

“The interest is there already from the supporters of Keighley and local teams and youth clubs and cafes in the area.

“The Denholme Youth Cafe took part in our first against Hunslet and the interest for this Sunday’s game against Newcastle has been phenomenal.

“In total, we have 37 kids coming down to take part in the ‘My Home Debut’ this Sunday but there is still an opportunity there for those who want to take part in our two remaining home games or in 2019.”

If you would be interested in taking part in ‘My Home Debut’ for either the Doncaster or North Wales Crusaders home fixtures in September or any home fixture in the 2019 season then contact the club.
