POLICE have confiscated a car from a provisional driver who was using the car unsupervised.

Officers stopped the silver Mercedes C180 in Oakenshaw, Bradford, on Friday afternoon.

The driver only had a provisional licence and was not being supervised, meaning his insurance was invalidated.

Government guidlines state that anyone driving on a provisional licence must do so under the supervision of someone who is over 21, who is qualified to drive the type of vehicle the provisional driver is using, and have had their full driving licence for three years.

Breaking these supervision guidelines can see a fine of up to £1,000 and six penalty points applied to the provisional licence.

One of the car's tyres was also bald - the term used when a tyre is worn down to the wear bars (a visual indicator on the tyre).

A car with a bald tyre should not be driven until the tyre is replaced, according to tyre specialists, RightTurn.

The car was seized and the driver reported.

One of the officers at the scene said on Twitter: "If you have no driving licence, no insurance and bald tyres it's probably best if you don't drive like an idiot past officers."
