TWO major roundabouts on key routes into Bradford will undergo work over the next two weekends.

Major resurfacing work is being planned by Bradford Council over the next two weekends on the two main roundabouts on Wakefield Road.

The Wakefield Road roundabout at Bowling Back Lane will be closed this weekend, followed by a closure of the Dudley Hill roundabout the following weekend.

At the same time, Manchester Road, heading towards Bradford, will be closed from Odsal Top roundabout to the junction with Carr Bottom Road.

This is to allow essential water works to go ahead from 7pm on August 11 to 8am on August 12.

Emergency vehicles will be given access to the road if necessary, but drivers will not be able to and are being told to use an alternative route, which runs from the Odsal Top sliproad to Rooley Avenue, Rooley Lane and Mayo Avenue.

The Wakefield Road roundabout at Bowling Back Lane is to be closed for the work from 5am on Saturday, August 11 to 5am on Monday, August 13.

The roads on all approaches to the roundabout will be closed with signed diversion routes in place via Shipley Airedale Road, Leeds Road and Sticker Lane.

The A6177 Dudley Hill roundabout will be closed for resurfacing from 5am on the following Saturday to 5am on Monday, August 20.

The roads on all approaches to the roundabout will be closed with signed diversion routes in place via Leeds Road, Shipley Airedale Road, Croft Street, Manchester Road, Mayo Avenue, Chase Way and Rooley Lane.

People are advised to expect long delays due to the disruption and to avoid the area and find alternative routes.

A spokesman for Bradford Council, said: "The resurfacing work to these two roundabouts is necessary and although it has been planned for weekends during the school holidays it is expected to unfortunately cause major disruption.

"We are advising people to use alternative routes and to avoid the area if possible."
