THE chance to try your hand at Yorkshire Pudding tossing is just one of the activities visitors to Bolling Hall can enjoy at a free event on Wednesday.
The novel pastime is all part of the celebrations in Bradford to mark Yorkshire Day, on August 1.
While in neighbouring Otley, two pubs have changed their names for the day to honour two well-known locals.
Vikings and crafts are being included in the line-up of events at Bolling Hall with prizes for youngsters who can toss their pudding the furthest.
People will also be able to get up close to authentic Vikings and find out all about how they came to Yorkshire.
Members of a local re-enactment group will be in the gardens of the museum, recreating what life was like in the Middle Ages.
There will also be plenty of other outdoor games, as well as activities such as face painting, family crafting sessions including the opportunity to make your own Yorkshire Rose.
Councillor Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Healthy People and Places, said: “Everyone is welcome to come along to Bolling Hall to celebrate all that is great about this amazing county of ours. I’m sure everyone will have a great time taking part in all the activities.”
The event takes place from 10am to 4pm with activities throughout the day with breaks for lunch.
The Black Horse pub, in Otley, has embraced Yorkshire Day by renaming the pub for the day to the Sir Gary, after the Welcome to Yorkshire chief executive, Sir Gary Verity.
Marie Wright, of the Black Horse Hotel, said: “It was a real honour to have Sir Gary pop in for a pint and we’re delighted that we’re going to be the Sir Gary Verity for the day on Yorkshire Day. I hope everyone will come to Otley on the day and enjoy visiting the town with all the pubs named after well-known Yorkshire folk.”
Sir Gary responded: “The Black Horse has a magnificent atmosphere and serves a great pint so I’m touched that it’s being named after me for Yorkshire Day, a wonderful celebration of all things Yorkshire.”
Gold-medal winning Paralympian star Hannah Cockroft is also to visit Otley on Yorkshire Day. The athletics star is due to pop in to The Junction Inn which will be renamed The Hannah Cockroft for the day in her honour.
