The two charities were set up following the death of Mrs Cox, who was murdered in Birstall in her Batley and Spen constituency in 2015, to support causes championed by Mrs Cox.

The peloton set off from Princess Mary Stadium in Cleckheaton this morning, and will arrive in London on Sunday. after 285 miles and stop-offs in Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Oxfordshire and Middlesex.

Ahead of the ride, Ms Leadbeater said: “The bike ride is an opportunity to focus on the resilience of communities when horrific things happen such as Jo’s murder.

“These horrendous circumstances have a way of making people pull together to work for the common good.”
