BRADFORD Council will look into the idea of setting up a “community lottery” that would help raise cash for local charities.
The idea, which had been proposed by Councillor Debbie Davies (Cons, Baildon), was discussed by Bradford Council on Tuesday.
The initiative was pioneered by Aylesbury Vale District Council, and sees people buy a ticket for £1, 60 per cent of which which would go towards locally chosen charities.
Cllr Davies said: “People might ask ‘Why don’t people just give donations.’ I find that whilst people are supportive of good causes, they also want to be part of something fun.
“Aylesbury Council has managed to raise over £170,000 for local causes through their lottery.”
The motion passed, and now officers will look into the possibility of setting up a Bradford lottery.
