PLANS have been lodged with Bradford Council to turn part of a former Wibsey pub into a three-bedroom house.

The building, which was once home to the Windmill Pub, is currently undergoing refurbishment to offer retail space and flat accommodation.

This application is seeking approval to convert one approved retail unit and a flat into a three-bedroom, two-storey house.

A design and access statement submitted with the plans states: "It is always unfortunate to see an established business in a village community come out of use and particularly a pub business and we all have too often seen in recent times.

"The proposed use will however retain the buildings and their historic appearance on the high street.

"The proposed development will with very little alteration create a new family dwelling which will support and expand the local shopping area and services.

"The proposed use of the building for a family house fits in well with the residential area of Wibsey village to the rear and side of the site."

It adds: "Nearby primary and secondary schools make this an attractive location for a family and promotes a more sustainable village lifestyle that is less reliant upon the motor vehicle.

"Very few external alterations are needed to alter the building to the proposed use and the essential character of the building will be retained as a positive contributor to the appearance of the high street.

"The use is in keeping with the residential land commercial nature of the area and there will be no detrimental impact on the neighbouring dwellings or businesses."
