NURSERY children enjoyed taking centre stage at a special 'graduation' ceremony to mark their transition to primary school later this year.

Staff and parents beamed with pride as they watched little ones at Russell Street Day Nursery, Little Horton, receive their certificates from the Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Zafar Ali.

The mini graduates also received a keepsake photograph and a gift from the nursery to mark their big day.

Nursery director Margaret Papworth said they had been blessed with sunny weather for the day and there had been tears from parents and staff.

She said: "It's lovely to see them graduate.

"We hope that we have put in the foundations for them to aim high."

An entertainer was on hand to ramp up the celebration atmosphere and visitors enjoyed a spread of a food.

A marquee was also decked out with bunting and decorations, ensuring the day was made all the more special for the nursery children as they prepare to take their next steps in education.
