DEPLETED Steeton, beaten 2-0 at home by Padiham last Tuesday, were given a further reminder of how tough life could be at semi-professional level when they lost 7-0 at home to Campion.

Steeton's manager Roy Mason said: “With so many players missing, it was going to be a huge ask to get a result.

"A side made up of a lot of trialists failed to build on last Tuesday night's positives.

“I will be busy trying to bring a bit of experience into the squad, and myself, Adam Smith and Chris Reape know the areas that we need to strengthen. Hopefully we can bring a couple of new faces in before playing at Thackley on Thursday."

Meanwhile, understrength Eccleshill United started their pre-season with an encouraging display – despite a 2-1 home defeat to Brighouse Town.

First-half goals by Mohammed Ibrahim, after Tom's Haigh header came back off a post, and a 25-yarder by Haigh were enough for Evo-Stik Division One North Town to triumph, with Sean Regan's men replying late in the opening stanza via a penalty by substitute Ben Hardy after Charlie Flaherty was pulled down.

Aran Basi could have equalised for United in the second half but the centre half headed a notable chance wide.

Farsley Celtic went down 3-2 at Vanarama National League new boys Harrogate Town in a competitive encounter.

New Celts keeper Ed Hall was picking the ball out of his net as early as the third minute when Jack Muldoon headed home at the back post, but Hall then saved well from Aaron Williams and Lloyd Kerry.

Farsley levelled with just over five minutes to go to half-time, with Ryan Watson smashing a free-kick into the top corner from 30 yards.

However, this only sparked Harrogate back into life, and Muldoon’s low cross was turned home by Dominic Knowles.

Farsley made four changes at the break, including keeper Kyle Trenerry, who made an excellent double save from Jordan Thewlis and Josh Falkingham.

But Town doubled their lead 10 minutes into the second half via a Thewlis penalty, but the Celts replied with just over 20 minutes remaining when Luke Parkin played in Nathan Cartman, with the ball creeping over the line following a deflection.

Aidan Kirby's brace maintained Silsden’s unbeaten pre-season run in a 2-1 home win over Hyde United, while Thackley triumphed 1-0 over FC United of Manchester, courtesy of a Luke Robinson goal after 37 minutes.

But it needed a superb save in the final seconds by substitute keeper Ollie Wright from Tom Greaves to maintain that margin.

Guiseley gave their full first-team squad a run out in a 3-0 victory over Yorkshire Amateur at Bracken Edge.

As they had against Bradford City, the Lions changed their whole team at half-time, but all of the goals came in the first half via Reece Thompson, Rowan Liburd and Terry Kennedy.

Liversedge were unable to raise team for their home match against Northallerton Town.

* Bradford (Park Avenue) have registered coaching duo Danny Boshell and Ryan Toulson as players ahead of the 2018-19 season.

Boshell, 37, was Avenue boss Mark Bower’s assistant at Guiseley, and they assembled a team that gained promotion to the Vanarama National League in 2015.

Toulson, 32, was part of that side, and has also represented FC Halifax Town, Harrogate Town and Gainsborough Trinity.
