A GROUP of City fans toasted Bradford Pals at a ceremony in France, with a beer brewed in their honour.
The Bus to Bradford group visited Bus les Artois, a village in the Arras region, for an annual remembrance service at a Pals memorial. "The event saw the unveiling of a Durham Pals memorial stone, completing the trio of stones for City battalions - Leeds, Durham and two Bradford Pals battalions - that made up the 31st Division at the Battle of the Somme in July, 1916," said treasurer Andy Tyne.
The group laid wreaths and Pals beer, supplied by Salamander Brewery of Dudley Hill, was served at an estaminet used during the war. It was re-opened for the occasion, attended by French veterans, locals and visitors from Bradford, Leeds and Durham. Bus-les-Artois was where many Bradford Pals spent their final days before advancing to the front.
