BRADFORD Council will be asked what it is doing to help the thousands of children in the district who are not wearing the correct glasses.

Earlier this year, a Born in Bradford study found that out of the 9,570 primary school age children in the district with an identified vision problem, 2,572 had never received appropriate glasses.

At a meeting of the full council on Tuesday, Councillor Debbie Davies (Baildon) Conservative spokesman for education, will ask what the Council was doing to help these children.

She will ask: “2,572 Bradford children need glasses but hadn’t been taken to their appointments, having a direct impact on literacy.

"Can the Portfolio Holder for Health and Wellbeing advise whether anything is being done to ensure that parents take their responsibilities more seriously?”

The council meets at 4pm in City Hall on Tuesday.
