A PRIMARY school in Little Horton has retained its 'Good' Ofsted rating following a recent inspection.

St Joseph's Catholic Primary School, in Park Lane, was praised by inspectors following the inspection last month.

In the inspection report, staff were praised for being "enthusiastic and increasingly able".

It also recognised effective safeguarding and good development in early years teaching.

Pupils behaviour and sense of community was highly rated, as were the school's teaching assistants and pupil outcomes.

The support given to children with special educational needs and from disadvantaged backgrounds was also highlighted in the report.

To become 'Outstanding' inspectors said St Joseph's needs to improve the attendance of a small minority of persistently absent pupils, set greater writing challenges for pupils to improve their outcomes, and further develop and share the skills of teaching assistants.
