THE Great Yorkshire Show is now underway and promises a fantastic celebration of all God's Own County has to offer.

The three-day event officially began today at the Great Yorkshire Showground in Harrogate.

Soprano Lizzie Jones, wife of the late Keighley Cougars player Danny Jones, will perform with The Band of the Royal Armoured Corps twice a day in the heart of the showground.

Harrogate College graduate and designer Joanna Rishworth from Keighley has researched what people would have worn to the very first Great Yorkshire Show in 1838 and has recreated the costumes especially for the 160th celebrations.

And Will Gray, a 19-year-old apprentice joiner with Manor Cabinet Makers in Bingley, is one of the youngest exhibitors at the show. He has transformed old pallets into homewares which visitors will be able to snap up.

Show director Charles Mills said the event is tipped to be a "magical show".

He said: "We have the best of British livestock and some of the finest animals in the UK if not the world, right here at the Great Yorkshire Show. This is a three-day celebration of the very best of food, farming and the countryside with some extra special additions to celebrate the 160th show."
