PUPILS at a Bradford primary school have had the chance to experience the thrills of the Apollo moon landings of the late 1960s and early 70s.

Moon rocks, from NASA, were loaned to St Matthew’s CE Primary School in West Bowling for its once-in-a-lifetime Borrow the Moon project.

Pupils watched the moon landing videos from 1969 to 1972, including the famous clip of Neil Armstrong, got the chance to handle meteorites and rocks from the Moon and Mars, and made edible moon rocks.

The rocks were loaned to the school by the Science and Technology Facilities Council, along with a range of activities and teaching materials.

The week-long project was organised by deputy headteacher and science lead Nicki Deane.

She said: “The main objective of the week has been to enthuse and engage all the children in space science.

“It has given them a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see and touch real meteorites that have travelled millions of miles to reach Earth.”
