BRADFORD is set for a summer of magical movie moments in a family film festival.

A sing-along version of smash hit The Greatest Showman and family favourite The Love Bug are among films on the Big Screen in City Park throughout August.

Bradford Family Film Festival, run by Bradford UNESCO City of Film, offers free and subsidised screenings of movies and documentaries. This year’s festival sees the newly-opened Light Cinema and Bradford Classic as new partners and, for the second year, organisers are working with Picturehouse at the National Science and Media Museum. This year’s City Park Film Supporter is Bradford Council’s Health Improvement Team, bringing its Living Well campaign to the festival.

The programme begins with Aardman animation Early Man on the Big Screen on Wednesday, August 1, at 11am.

Set at the dawn of time, when prehistoric creatures and woolly mammoths roamed the Earth, it’s the story of Dug who, with sidekick Hognob, unites his tribe against mighty enemy Lord Nooth and his Bronze Age City. Other Big Screen showings include Paddington 2, Ferdinand and The Peanuts Movie.

Picturehouse Bradford is hosting reduced rate screenings of two IMAX 3D documentaries: A Beautiful Planet, a breathtaking portrait of Earth from space, narrated by Jennifer Lawrence, and Dream Big: Engineering Our World, narrated by Jeff Bridges, which celebrates engineering marvels big and small. Featuring inspiring stories of human grit and aspiration, the film reveals how engineers push the limits to create a more sustainable future and how, from the Great Wall of China and the world’s tallest buildings to underwater robots and solar-powered cars, engineering plays a crucial role in many of our greatest innovations.

The Light Cinema will be screening reduced rate films every weekday morning as part of the festival, with titles to be announced each week. Clayton Community Cinema is also joining the festival, showing films such as Paddington 2 in Clayton Village Hall, and Bradford Classic will bring family classic The Love Bug to City Park’s Big Screen.

Festival director David Wilson said: “I’m really excited about this year’s programme with its mix of film and documentary. We’re also very pleased to be promoting health and fitness as part of our festival, working with the team on the Living Well Campaign.”
