Today we look at the Telegraph & Argus Wednesday December 11, 1963:
The American sport ten pin bowling had finally arrived in Bradford and to mark the occasion the Lord Mayor Coun T. Wood officially opened the £300,000 bowling centre by knocking down nine of the ten pins, in two rolls.
Showing off his skills, watched by the Lady Mayoress and other distinguished guests, plus an audience of 450, the Lord Mayor thanked the chairman of Excel Bowling for bringing the leisure facilities to the rapidly developing city, “I believe that this new centre will benefit the services of the community and at the same time provide entertainment for people of all ages.”
Based in Canterbury Avenue, with its aircon and central heating, the Bradford centre was the 1,000th British bowling lane to be installed by AMF Ltd., and to mark the milestone the joint managing director Mr. G. M. R. Lord presented the Bradford centre with a plaque.
