CREWS from Bradford had to called to a different county last night to join crews from five other stations in tackling a fire in a three-storey town centre building.

Firefighters from Bradford, Silsden, Skipton, Grassington and Settle were called to High Street in Skipton, where reports of a fire at a three-storey commercial shopping unit were made at 10.17pm.

Bradford crews took an aerial ladder platform to help tackle the blaze, but were not required to tackle the fire at Rackhams - House of Fraser.

Crews used breathing apparatus and hoses to put out the fire.

A spokesperson for Skipton fire station said: "We got the call from an automatic fire alarm, and when we arrived there was smoking coming from a second floor window of the premises.

"The fire was confined to one office block on the second floor, and there was quite a bit of smoke damage to that floor.

"It probably took around 15 to 20 minutes to get the fire under control.

"The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but at this time we have no reason to believe it was deliberate."
