IT was another scorching night as football fans both young and old gathered to watch England's 1-0 defeat to Belgium.

There was a party atmosphere at Odsal Stadium throughout Gareth Southgate's side's final Group G where the game was shown on the big screen.

But they left disappointed as Adnan Januzaj's strike saw England set up a last-16 clash with Colombia next Tuesday night

Bradford Bulls stepped in to show matches involving the Three Lions after it was announced the games would not be shown in Centenary Square in the city centre.

Many people dressed up for the occasion, donning England hats, flags and face paint.

Chants rang out around the stadium as the game got under way, with one young fan leading with a drum beat to get the crowd going.

Speaking before the game, Ian Lightfoot, 30, of West Bowling said: "We need to win it to beat the best teams. It will make them more hungry for the game."

Musab Bhatti, 28, of Shipley, added: "It has been really good, it's the first time we have come here and it's a nice atmosphere.

"We just thought, we will get into the World Cup spirit and watch it with a few people."

He added: "They should end up where it's the easiest route through to the final."

Speaking during half-time, Don Parkin, 60, from Swain House, criticised the change of squad and said: "If you're on a winning streak, keep it going."

He also praised the atmosphere at Odsal Stadium.

While Sandra Boocock, 71, from Cottingley, said: "It has been really good. We came last time they were playing, it was the first time I've ever been here."

Damian Irvine, commercial director at Bradford Bulls, said: "It has been great, we've been very happy with family-orientated vibe.

"It has been really relaxed, it's a great summer's evening and it was the last game as well.

"When the T&A highlighted that there might not be a community area to watch the games, it's pretty important for us to try and create that vibe and facilitate that.

"We're really glad people have come out and supported it. You can sit at home with your family and watch it, indoors out of the sun, or get out and meet other people, and, particularly when goals go in, it's a good community atmosphere."
