THE LORD Mayor of Bradford was one of the VIP visitors to Keighley and Worth Valley Railway yesterday as the railway prepared to celebrate its 50th anniversary this weekend.

Councillor Zafir Ali, who represents the Keighley Central ward, and his party were treated to a look around railway exhibits at Oxenhope Station before enjoying a ride on a steam train between Oxenhope and Keighley.

The mayor said he was delighted to be part of the celebrations adding: “The Keighley and Worth Valley Railway is a wonderful asset to our district and has been a brilliant attraction over the last 50 years.”

Dr Matt Stroh, chairman of the railway, added: “We have so much to thank our founding members for as we celebrate 50 years of operation.”

One of the stars of the anniversary which is being marked by an eight-day gala starting on Sunday, is locomotive Ivatt which has been specially restored so it can run on the line under its own power for the first time in five years.
