POLICE are investigating after a man allegedly asked a child to get into his vehicle this morning.

It happened as a pupil from Woodlands Primary School, Mill Carr Hill Road, Oakenshaw, made their way to the school. 

Headteacher Karen Webster said: "A pupil reported a suspicious incident on arrival to school this morning which we reported immediately to the police.

"Their investigation is ongoing, and if anyone has any information about this they must contact the police on 101 quoting log 303. 

"We have asked parents to be extra vigilant when bringing children to or from school as the safety of our children is paramount.”

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "Police were called at 7.59am today (Thursday) to a report of an incident in Oakenshaw, where a man in a van had allegedly asked a child to get into the vehicle.

“The incident was reported to have happened at around 7.54am near Teasel Close.

“The child has been spoken to and enquiries are continuing.

“Anyone who can assist is asked to contact police on 101, quoting log 303 of today."
