SIR - I find the reaction from Jeanette Sunderland on the news that the Council is not intending to erect the big screen in City Park on the grounds of cost all too familiar. She is being both hypocritical and opportunistic at the same time.

May I remind your readers that her party was in national coalition with the Conservatives when they took the decision to strip Bradford of hundreds of millions of pounds from its revenue. The Council has little discretionary money to disburse, so their decision is entirely understandable.

To say that it could be policed by the police themselves and others is disingenuous. The police have had their money taken away, too, and they do not have the resources to maintain the security of an event of this nature.

I have the feeling that, had the Council decided to fund the event, Councillor Sunderland would have objected on the grounds that it would be a waste of money.

As I recall, Councillor Sunderland was against spending money on the hugely successful City Park in the first place. Thank goodness we have grown-up politicians such as Susan Hinchcliffe and her team running the city.
