BARNARDO’S is hosting free workshops across Yorkshire for anyone interested in learning how best to safeguard LGBTQ children and young people.

The events are being held to coincide with Safeguarding Week, which starts on June 25 and aims to raise awareness of the different forms of abuse and how to spot them. The Bradford workshop is being held on June 26 from 3pm to 4pm at the Half Moon Café in Saltaire’s Roberts Park.

The charity states that young people who identify as LGBTQ statistically experience poor emotional and mental well-being, with lesbian, gay, and bisexual young people twice as likely to make at least one suicide attempt in their lives compared to heterosexual peers.

Marcel Varney, Barnardo’s assistant director, said: “Young people who are LGBTQ are much more vulnerable to bullying and poor mental health than other young people.”
