STUNT teams, military vehicles, musical entertainment and a Spitfire flypast were enjoyed by visitors to this year's Keighley Armed Forces Day.

The event, organised by the Keighley Armed Forces Association (KAFA), was held at the Marley Playing Fields on Sunday.

The day attracted young and old alike, but there were also some familiar faces among the crowds.

Actor Chris Chittell, who plays Eric Pollard in ITV's Emmerdale opened the event and presented KAFA's Rosie Clarke with an award for her work.

Paratrooper Lance Bombardier Ben Parkinson MBE, who is the most seriously injured British soldier to survive an attack in Afghanistan, was also in attendance with the Pilgrim Bandits charity, which helps inspire injured personnel to live life to the full.

L/Bdr Parkinson, from Doncaster, suffered around 40 different injuries, including brain damage and losing both his legs, when his Land Rover was blown up in 2006.

Speaking about the day, Ms Clarke, who has been in the cadets since she was 14 years old and now volunteers as an instructor, said: "They [the armed forces] give their lives for us and it's just celebrating all their hard work and giving something back to them."

Tim Cole, Deputy Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, said the day had been "very enjoyable" and that a lot of hard work had gone into putting the event on.

He added: "It's good to see the community turn out to acknowledge the armed forces."

Also in attendance were Andy Wade and Ian Walkden, from Men of Worth, which documents the men and women of Keighley and the Worth Valley who served the country in wartime.

Mr Wade said it had been a "terrific day" and their stall had been visited by a lot of people.

"I'd like to congratulate KAFA on arranging an excellent day," Mr Walkden added.

"The weather hasn't been the best, but it has been ok and this must be the best show they have ever done.

"We've been to all of them and number wise, I'd say this is by far the best."

Representatives from the police and fire service were also in attendance, along with military re-enactors.
