The Telegraph & Argus celebrates it 150th anniversary this year and in honour of the occasion we are printing a story from our archives every day for 150 days.
Today we look at the Telegraph and Argus Friday, 16 June 1950: On its way to France, with a team of six, was a stripped-down version of the two-seater luxury sports car, Javelin Jupiter, already to enter the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans road race. After an overnight stay at Folkestone, the Jowett party from Idle, sailed from Dover to the Continent, where practice had begun almost immediately. The Jupiter, painted in English racing green and driven by Mr. Tommy Wisdom, had come in at a respectable 16th position, after been put through its paces with some tough opposition from America, France, Italy and Czechoslovakia in one of Europe’s most premier sporting events.
