BRADFORD City have been reimagined in the most unique of ways by a creator who is transporting the club into a new mode.

The Bradford City tube map portrays the club’s history, players, managers and stand-out moments all in the form of a London Underground style poster.

Each “line” represents a decade of a club’s history, with the length of each one very much dependent on the team’s success during those years.

The colour-coded lines interlock and at points come together to meet in the middle where a number of club legends are showcased, with the likes of Paul Jewell and Peter Jackson being among many names on the Bradford version.

Creator, Michael Cochrane, has come a long way since his journey began. Originally a HR Manager, his hobby has now become a proper job.

He said: “What I started doing was local teams. I made 120 for Lymm and 120 sold.”

But, he added: “You can only sell local teams locally.”

From then, he decided to test the water by designing maps for what he describes as “the usual suspects” and his creations quickly became more and more sophisticated.

He now has a collection of 28 football maps, with two alternative designs (race tracks and England rugby), that can be seen and purchased on his website: tubeart.co.uk

In the beginning, the history of the players at a club were charted alongside trophies and accolades, but now Mr Cochrane has gone off the rails with his ideas by incorporating stand-out moments from a club’s history as well as the history of a club’s kit and badge.

This is the case for Bradford’s version, which pays homage to their historic 1911 FA Cup win as well as an excerpt highlighting how City were the only club to be directly elected to The Football League without playing a game, when formed in 1903.

A journey on the Bradford line begins at their inception as Manningham FC moving at a fast-pace across numerous connections before coming to a stop at the final destination of the 2000s.

Mr Cochrane said: “The more you look at it, the more you realise and discover.”

Such detail requires intense research and one map takes around six weeks for Mr Cochrane to create.

Some of his biggest challenges are finding pre-war information for a club and also running out of space.

Mr Cochrane knows that he has around 130-150 spaces for each club, but often there’s so much information that he has to tweak designs slightly.

His motivations behind his designs though are of nostalgia.

He said: “One of the reasons is appreciating the traditions of football – there’s a never-ending set of topics.

He added: “But, you don’t get many dates from it.”

He offers personalised prints (substitute your name for a player’s name) for roughly £150, with normal prints ranging from £24 to £90. Go to tubeart.co.uk
