A FREE cycle-powered cinema is being held this week at Saltaire Brewery as part of UK Bike Week.

The screening, fuelled by pedal power, is taking place at Saltaire's Brewery Tap on Dockfield Road on Wednesday, June 13, from 7pm.

It is being held as part of Bike Week, a national event aimed at inspiring more people to take up cycling and feel its benefits.

One of three films - Stand By Me, Back to the Future, and Breaking Away - will be shown from 8.30pm, with a public vote ongoing on the brewery's Facebook page to decide which will be shown.

While watching the film, audience members will have to take it in turns pedalling to keep the film running.

Alice Phillips, events and hospitality manager at Saltaire Brewery, said: “This year we’re stepping our Bike Week game up a gear.

"From the bike-powered cinema to our Ride n’ a Pint social cycles with MTB Cycle Yorkshire, we have things covered for all beer loving cyclists.

"The pop-up cinema is going to be a brilliant evening and what a great way to get everyone involved by having the audience pedal to keep the film running – hopefully there’ll be no cliff hangers!"

The screening is part of the brewery's partnership with the CityConnect programme run by West Yorkshire Combined Authority, which recently funded a new cycling parking area at the brewery through its Bike Friendly Business Scheme.

Ms Phillips added: “Our brand new bike rack has already gone down well with our Brewery Tap regulars and being right next to the canal, we’re a great refuel stop for cyclists."

Cyclists will also be able to get their bikes checked over by a mechanic before the film starts.
