AN academy will mark the Windrush anniversary celebrations by inviting some of the Windrush generation to the school for afternoon tea.
Next month marks the 70th anniversary of the Empire Windrush ship arriving in the UK with the first wave of West Indian migrants.
They had been invited to the UK to help rebuild the country following WW2.
Appleton Academy, part of Exceed Academies Trust, is hosting an Afternoon Tea for residents of Mary Seacole Court in Bradford, some of whom are part of the Windrush generation, on Thursday June 7.
Students and staff will listen to their memories of arriving in Bradford and the changes that they have witnessed.
Principal Helen Jones said: “The event will be a great opportunity to honour these citizens and help forge stronger relationships with the school and community.”
