A BRADFORD teenager who trained at a local nursery has been named Young Trainee of the Year at a national awards ceremony.

Shelby Ramsden undertook a traineeship at Broomfield Day Nursery and her achievements were recognised by Qube Learning at the ceremony held at the Montcalm Hotel in London.

The event was hosted by multiple gold medallist and World Record holder Colin Jackson CBE.

He said: “It was such an honour to give Shelby her award. She has worked fantastically hard to achieve success and really deserves this recognition. With so many inspiring stories, I really do champion traineeships and apprenticeships and hope it motivates people to consider the different education routes available.”

From the start of her Traineeship, Shelby was always commended for her positive ‘can do’ attitude. During her studies, she also had a dental block fitted. She was in constant pain and struggled to eat but despite this, she never missed a day of work and felt that she would rather keep busy than be in the same pain at home.

Joe Crossley, CEO of Qube Learning said: “Traineeships are a great way for young people to gain the skills and vital experience needed to progress onto an apprenticeship or step onto the career ladder. Each day we come across so many exceptional individuals like Shelby who have shown great determination to get to where they are today.”

The award ceremony was held by Qube Learning, which works with hundreds of employers across the country to deliver training and qualifications.
