A COLLEGE in the Bradford district will be one of the first in Yorkshire to teach the new T Levels.

The Government's plan to offer a technical alternative to A Levels has seen Shipley College of Further Education become one of only a handful of colleges to offer the courses, from 2020.

Damian Hinds, the Education Secretary, says he is committed to working with business and learning from international competitors to ensure these new qualifications are a generational shift in technical education.

Courses will cover sectors such as finance and accounting, engineering and manufacturing, and creative and design.

Mr Hinds said: "For too long young people have not had a genuine choice about their future aged 16. Whilst A levels provide a world class academic qualification, many technical education courses are undervalued by employers and don’t always provide students with the skills they need to secure a good job - that has to change.
