A MAN has spoken of his fury after teenagers smashed a car through his garden wall before fleeing the scene.

The shocking scene unfolded on Tuesday night at Mark Merifield's house on Burnham Avenue, Bierley.

Mr Merifield, 50, said he heard the screech of a car coming down the road.

"Next thing I knew, it's in the side of my wall," Mr Merifeld, a support worker said.

"When I looked out, there were five teenagers - they got out of the car and ran off.

He added: "They left the car at the side of the wall - it was smoking - I had to move my car in case it caught fire.

"People need to be vigilant on the road. My kids play in the garden, they could have killed them quite easily."

Mr Merifield is now calling for measures to be brought in to tackle the scourge of speeding drivers and quad bikes.

He said he would like cameras to be introduced and a lowered speed limit of 20mph.

"It's one thing after another on the main road, you see it every day. They just put their foot down."

Me Merifield has been left with a smashed wall and remnants of the car - including one of its lights - in his garden.

Councillor Alan Wainwright (Lab, Tong) said: "I'm never short of being appalled by incidents like this. People don't care."

He said: "What the answer is, is more police. It's the police presence, the police knowing the communities that can stop this.

"It's happening all over the country. It's down to police presence - police are the deterrent."

However he said the police, like the Council, are facing budget pressures.

A West Yorkshire Polices spokesman said: “Police were called at 10.35pm yesterday (Tuesday) to a report of a car hitting a wall in Burnham Avenue.

“The occupants of the vehicle, a blue Renault Megane, were reported to have ran off towards Rooley Lane. They were believed to be white and in their late teens. "One was thought to be wearing a blue Adidas hooded top. No injuries were reported to the attending officers and enquiries are continuing today into the registered keeper of the vehicle.

“The Bradford South Neighbourhood Policing Team is working with partners and specialist resources at West Yorkshire Police to address concerns around anti-social behaviour in the area.

“Anyone who can assist is asked to contact police on 101, quoting log 2112 of 22 May or use the ‘Contact Us’ options at www.westyorkshire.police.uk”
