CITY are not expected to unveil their new head coach this week.

The Telegraph & Argus understands that the selection process is still ongoing and is unlikely to be decided within the next few days.

Owners Edin Rahic and Stefan Rupp have drawn up a short-list of possible successors to Simon Grayson but it is believed that not all the preferred candidates have been spoken to so far.

With contracts to be sorted out, it is therefore looking increasingly likely that City will not be in position to make the final call until next week.

It is a fortnight now since Grayson declined the chance to stay on at Valley Parade at the end of his original short-term deal.

Rahic recently told the T&A that they were “open-minded” about their choice of coach and were prepared to take their time to attract the man best suited to the club’s philosophy.

Mark Warburton is still the favourite with the bookies but the former Brentford, Rangers and Nottingham Forest boss is known to be looking to stay in the Championship.

Grant McCann is understood to be very keen on the Bantams position as his way back into football after being sacked by Peterborough in February.

Former Hearts boss and Newcastle coach Ian Cathro is another name being touted but there are others under the radar who are likely to be in contention.

City’s search for someone with coaching, rather than just management, experience has opened up the possibility of an assistant from the Premier League, Championship or abroad coming in.

But the number of rival jobs currently available will also have a knock-on effect as potential candidates hedge their bets.

Newly-relegated duo Sunderland and Barnsley are both on the look-out for new men at the helm as well as the vacancies in the Championship at Ipswich and Swansea. There has also been some uncertainty with Sheffield United.

City insist recruitment plans are still on course without anyone at the helm and Rahic had a meeting with Greg Abbott yesterday to discuss targets.

The absence of a head coach is obviously a factor in talks with prospective players.

But the club hope they can minimise any uncertainty by making it clear how they intend to approach next season and their style of play regardless of who is going to be in charge.
