BRADFORD is playing its part in supporting National Smile Month, which runs until June 14 and aims to improve the UK’s oral health.

A number of events will be held at Bradford College’s Northern Dental Education Centre (NORDEC).

They will run on Monday and Tuesday and will include outreach and activity sessions and school taster sessions.

The sessions, for both primary and secondary pupils, will be aimed at educating and raising awareness of oral health in an interactive way.

Community centres, as well as centres which help refugees and asylum seekers are also being invited.

The Better Start Bradford team will also be out and about in the Better Start Bradford areas of Bowling and Barkerend, Bradford Moor and Little Horton, visiting baby and toddler groups to hand out early tooth brushing kits and a 'Top Tips for Teeth' wallet card from Change 4 Life.

The kit includes toothpaste, a toothbrush and a two-minute timer, which is the recommended time that children should brush their teeth for.

Gill Thornton, Head of Programme at Better Start Bradford said: “Good oral health is fundamental to the overall health of a child. As part of this campaign, we are hoping more parents understand the importance of looking after their children’s teeth."
