SHOPPERS watched on as a crowd of people in 70s clothing marched down Ivegate protesting injustice.

However, the lively scene was being held to promote a new performance being held at the Old Crown pub.

This Space Is Occupied tells the fictionalised story of a group of radicals in 1970s Bradford who set up a squat in an abandoned pub, where they hold arts events and discuss issues of the day like the Paris riots, gay rights and racial inequality.

The interactive shows, by Bent Architects, will allow people to move around the pub, decked out in 70s furniture, as they immerse themselves in the performance.

It is inspired by the artistic communes that were set up in Bradford in the 60s and 70s, when artists and social campaigners set up squats in abandoned buildings.

The cast of the show marched down Ivegate, one of Bradford’s oldest roads, on Thursday afternoon, waving placards based on the causes of the day.

The production runs at the Old Crown from Wednesday May 23 to Saturday June 2. For tickets visit bentarchitect.co.uk
