The Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Zafar Ali, has written to the couple to express his congratulations and joy for their forthcoming marriage.

He said: “We wish Prince Harry and Ms Markle a beautiful wedding and a life filled with everlasting happiness.

“With many opportunities to celebrate with family, friends or communities, or just watch at home, I hope that everyone across the Bradford district can enjoy this wonderful occasion.”

In Bradford, City Hall’s clock tower bells will ring out 1.01pm in celebration and at nightfall, the clock tower will be lit up red, white and blue.

In Clayton, an eye catching ‘yarn bomb’ royal wedding scene is currently taking pride of place on the village’s roundabout.

It was created by members of the Clayton Village WI, who started working on it in February. It is estimated it has taken around 70 people - and 30 balls of wool - to create.

President Pam Cunningham said: “The response has been absolutely phenomenal.

“So many people have taken pictures of it. It’s nice to have a bit of a positivity.

“It’s just nice to try and bring the village together.”

Barkerend Primary Leadership Academy will mark the occasion today by dressing up as princes and princesses, eating fish and chips and singing a rousing rendition of the national anthem

While a Bradford Council spokesperson said no applications for street parties have been made, people wishing to hold them need to let the Council know in advance about their plans.
