WELCOME to Yorkshire has invited the editor of the New York Times to visit the county after the publication referred to a Yorkshire Pudding as a “Dutch Baby.”
In a recent article the paper said the Dutch Baby, which they described as a “large, fluffy pancake,” was “excellent for breakfast, brunch, lunch and dessert.”
The article caused a huge backlash, with some from Yorkshire describing it as cultural appropriation and others pointing out the dish was older than the U.S.A.
Tourism group Welcome to Yorkshire has now invited the paper’s bosses to come and taste the real deal.
Chief Executive Sir Gary Verity said: ‘Nowhere is the Yorkshire Pudding celebrated more than its home county of Yorkshire. We are incredibly proud of our local dish served in all its forms but most famously as the absolute must on a Sunday roast.
“We would be delighted to welcome The New York Times over to Yorkshire to sample one of our favourite foods in all its glory in its stunning native, surroundings.”
