JOHN Kear believes loanee James Laithwaite has bought in to life at the Bulls.

The Odsal coach is delighted to have pinned down the Toronto second-rower for the rest of the season.

Laithwaite, who extended his initial one-month loan from the Wolfpack, scored his first Bulls try in Sunday’s 124-0 thrashing of West Wales.

It was his third appearance for the club and Kear reckons he has already settled right in.

Kear said: “Toronto have been very good to us with regard to James.

“He is with us full time. It’s not having a Toronto player who trains with them the first half of the week and then joins us.

“He’s with us all the time and that shows. He’s really bought in to being part of the group and the group like him as well.

“I think he will be a really good acquisition. He’s shown that, not only on Sunday but I thought his best performance was against Doncaster when he was really good.

“We know we’ve got a good player and he’s here for the rest of the year.”

Steve Crossley was left out at the weekend after his back spasm. But the forward will be fully fit to play in the rearranged home clash against London Skolars on Saturday.

After the club record win to take them top of League One for the first time, Kear admits he is going to be spoilt for choice with team selection.

“I’ve got some tough decisions again because I thought young Vila (Halafihi) came in and did a good job as well,” he added. “But I like decisions like that.

“The reserves are also undefeated at the minute and there are young men in that team really working hard and trying to grab the first-team shirts.

“We’re in a good place but there’s lots of work to be done yet. We’re rebuilding the playing side right the way through.

“It’s nice to be acknowledged that we’re doing okay but we feel we can get even better.”

Kear again thanked chairman Andrew Chalmers for his assistance in assembling the current squad.

“Andrew has done a great job, he’s a very hands-on owner. You can speak to him about anything and he supports you every way he can.

“But he’s also prudent. He doesn’t give money away, he makes sure it’s earned and that’s why you get a good team.”
