A STUDENT of a Cullingworth school is to perform with international superstar Barry Manilow.

Jasmine Colgan is a member of the Opera North Youth Chorus which will perform alongside the famous singer at the O2 Arena in Leeds on September 1.

The Parkside School student will also be amongst the Youth Chorus when it performs Gilbert & Sullivan's famous comic opera Pirates of Penzance at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Following the summer engagement in the Scottish capital the choir will perform the work at the Harrogate International Gilbert & Sullivan Festival.

Jasmine and her fellow singers will be working with music director Nicholas Shaw and director John Savournin.

The Opera North Youth Chorus gives young people aged 14 to 19 the skills and experience to become well-rounded performers.

Weekly sessions help them develop their singing voices and musicianship skills, while professional directors and movement specialists progress their skills in drama and stagecraft.

The Youth Chorus explores music from a range of genres, and members take part in a week-long residential to prepare a full production in a professional theatre.
