SHIPLEY-based Radio Design has been awarded the prestigious Queen's Award for Technology: Innovation for helping rival wireless telecoms operators to boost their network capacities.

The unique technology developed by Radio Design, which allows wireless network operators to share existing antenna, mast and cable infrastructures has proved a huge hit worldwide.

Auto Bypass TM technology allows expensive existing equipment to be shared and re-used on different mobile masts, reducing faults and ensuring sites are future-proof.

Radio Design's technology and components are also proving to be a very important part of the process as the world's mobile operators roll out ultra-fast 5G technology capable of processing up to 10 Gigabytes per second.

Eric Hawthorn, Radio Design’s Managing Director, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to have been recognised in the Queen’s Innovation Awards. It’s incredibly satisfying that our team’s hard work has once again received global recognition.”

The 2018 Queen's Award comes on top of a successful year in 2017 for Radio Design, as the company was granted an import/export license to the lucrative China market. This was a major step forward for the firm's global expansion plans, and offers a strategic gateway to the thriving Asia-Pacific market.
