MEMBERS of 1st Burley-in-Wharfedale Brownies and their families took part in a Walk for Water with WaterAid this weekend to highlight the problems that millions of people across the world have in accessing clean water.
WaterAid figures reveal 844 million people do not have access to clean water close to their homes and 2.3 million people don't have access to a decent toilet of their own.
Sharon Hatterley, leader of 1st Burley Brownies said: "The girls visited watery locations in the village and walked to the River Wharfe to collect water which they they carried back to the village, experiencing the hard work undertaken by many children around the world each day. They were very grateful that their water is clean and comes from the tap, and quite shocked that many people would have to drink river water.
"Around 443 million school days are lost each year because of water related illness. The girls will be making a donation to WaterAid."
