SIMON Grayson has promised he won’t delay the decision on whether he is staying at Valley Parade.

Grayson’s future is coming under the spotlight with the short-term deal that he agreed in February running out at the end of the season.

Preliminary talks have been underway with chairman Edin Rahic but more serious discussions are due to take place shortly.

And Grayson, currently being strongly linked with the Scunthorpe job, insists there will be no dragging it out.

He said: “I’m not going to say it will be by a certain day or week but it’s got to be quite quickly for everybody’s benefit, most notably Bradford City’s.

“If I stay, then we need to move forward with all the things we need to improve on and get going.

“If I leave, then they need to move on to other things as well. It’s something that isn’t going to drag on.

“We’ll have a chat whenever, next week possibly or straight after the season, but we’ve discussed certain things already. When we come to a final decision, it will be sooner rather than later.”

Grayson has had mixed results since succeeding Stuart McCall, although City take a four-match unbeaten run into today’s home clash with Southend.

But given the uncertainty hovering over the club since the turn of the year, fans want to know the future plans.

“Any football club is more important than any manager or players,” added Grayson.

“Supporters are here for the long-term and the club have to have an idea what they want to do and achieve – and take it back to where everybody is connected again.

“I understand there has been a little bit of negativity around the place for a number of months now.

“It can only help if you’ve got a really positive environment for everybody, it certainly does on the pitch.

“Supporters need to know which way the football club is going to go in the future, whether I’m here or not, because it’s their club and what it means to them.”

Grayson is keen to see that he would be backed on and off the field, not just on the playing side but the infrastructure at City with areas such as improving the training pitches.

The Bantams boss insists his call will not solely be based on the size of the kitty on offer to rebuild the squad.

He said: “I’m not going to make a decision until I’ve had all the details that I need to know, for the good or bad.

“I want to be a success at this football club and give it the best opportunity to get back into the Championship.

“There a lot of things that can make that decision happen for everybody concerned and give the supporters something back of what they’ve enjoyed over a number of seasons now.

“There are going to be many different reasons that will make me want to stay or leave the club.

“It’s not just going to be one particular thing – there are so many that happen at a club to make it a positive place.

“People will think that’s it’s just going to be based on a budget. But it’s not about that, there are so many other things.

“Players are part of a football club and what they get paid. But there are many other things that contribute to making it a successful club and makes your job easier doing that.

“There’s lots that I need to get tied down one way or another for everybody.

“But I’m fully aware that a decision will be made very quickly because it’s in the best interests of the football club to move on, with or without me.

“This club deserves success. It’s got a great fanbase and has had success in the past.

“It’s hit a dark patch in the last few months or so and everybody wants to get it back to where it was once.”
