NHS trusts are dealing with hundreds of incidents every year relating to leaking roofs, blocked sewage pipes and pest control, new figures reveal.

The figures, which have been released by Labour, show the Airedale NHS Foundation Trust had the highest number of roof leaks - a total of 314 from 2015-17 - out of the 75 trusts which reported incidents.

Labour has warned of a “funding crisis” creating unsafe work environments.

The trust said the high number of leaks is due to a large, flat roof area and it has an “extensive” repair and maintenance programme. It said £110,00 was invested last year and repairs have seen a significant decrease in leaks as a result.

A Department of Health and Social Care spokesperson said £760m is being invested into the NHS for major projects including new buildings, wards and beds.
