A CAMPAIGN to create a town council for Shipley will hold a drop in session in the town’s library tomorrow.

Earlier this year a steering group was set up to look into creating a new council, possibly as early as May 2019, as a way of giving the town a stronger voice.

Tomorrow the group will hold a question and answer session for anyone interested in being a part of the council. It will run at Shipley Library from 1.45pm to 4.45pm.

The group will be looking for people to help collect signatures, hand out leaflets and communicate the group’s goals to the public.

If the group is successful in creating a town council, Bradford Council would still run services like bin collections and road maintenance, but the town council would have other powers devolved.

In 2016 Bingley Town Council held its first meeting, and Baildon also has its own town council.
